Today is Armed Forces Day. As a child, growing up in Nebraska, this was a day of parades, flying flags and rampant patriotism.

My father would take us ‘downtown’ and we would stand along the street as bands marched by, waving small American flags. Dad would hush us and make us stand smartly as the colors came by, followed by veterans of WWI and II and the Korean Conflict that had recently ended.

There was a sense of pride you could feel as we honored these men and women.

So, I salute all of you who have served, and continue to serve this country, in war or peace.  This is your day. Thank you all and God bless you and your families.

I will play some John Phillip Sousa, some Glenn Miller, and in my mind at least hold a parade for you, because you deserve it!
