Started out this morning before sunrise. It is the first day of rabbit season, and began with 45 degrees up here on top of Sunrise Ridge.
I opted for my heavier clothes and good boots and was very happy to have them as we drove down int the ‘holler’ to turn the beagles out.
Turkeys were startled off the roost as the sun touched the tree tops there in the holler. Noisy in flight as they spoke their disgust at the interuption.
There in the valley, Autumn colors were on display. red, yellow, gold. More brilliant than the springtime.
New food plots have been planted in some of the clear cuts. Clover, turnips and winter wheat sprouting in the chill morning in the tender greens of new born plants. Here and there wild plants still bloom, sweet scented honeysuckle, goldenrod, and purple thistle. Food for later on.
Yes, the dogs got up a couple of rabbits, the music of their belling added to that of birds, grasshoppers and chirping crickets. We killed none, nor did it matter. The beauty, the glory, the peace of the day is enough.
Mary as ususal your description of life on Sunrise Ridge sound wonderful! and thanks for the photo’s of the Autunm colours as where we live we really do not get all the glorious colours, they get them in the southern states but there maybe one or two Liquid Ambers around so we do get a little bit of colour! I have one but it is a baby tree yet although I do get a few pretty colours in the leaves right before they fall off!
Kathy, we have a tree here called sweet gum, which is according to my Google search very like your liquid amber. The one over at my parents yard has spectacular colors. Thanks for sharing that you have these beautiful trees there in Australia. Smaller world than we think sometimes isn’t it?
I hate to step on the little spiky seed pods though.
