That is what’s happening on Sunrise Ridge today.
The place smells good! Hubby made sure there were enough potatoes and apples peeled for the two dishes that are cooking.
The current condition of front steps and porch have convinced me that cooking, craft projects and hanging out with friends on the internet are in my best interest.

Looking out the kitchen window, some of the pine trees are begining to sag just a bit with a clear coating of ice.
I am not a fan of this kind of weather, but if we have to have it, I can be happy to be inside, here on Sunrise Ridge, cozy and warm, well fed, with all I need supplied; comforted with love and friendship. Winter weather has it’s good points, besides making a person appreciate the rest of the year.
Tomorrow we are supposed to see some sun, and the jewels will hang all around, a richness that cannot be copied by the Hope diamond or any other gem.

Apple crisp without oatmeal
5 or 6 cups sliced apples
Preheat oven to 350 (my kids call this the ‘all purpose oven temperature’)
3/4 tsp or to taste cinnamon
dash of ground cloves
dash nutmeg
1/2 cup water + 1 Tbsp lemon juice
toss together and put on an 8 inch square pan
In a bowl, cut together
5 Tsp soft butter or margarine or shortening…
1/3 cup white sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar (or all brown or white, the more brown sugar you use, the more, ‘caramel apple’ it is)
1/2 cup flour
Mix until crumbly and spread over the apples
Bqake for 30 – 45 minutes, until apples are done when you stick a fork in it.
Serve warm or cold, with icecream, whipped topping or even a slice of cheddar cheese.
Pretty good stuff, and almost ready!
I’m getting a fork out now!
