Saw milling, on a small scale is still alive and well out here in Missouri. The pictures were taken at a small sawmill, where some selective cutting is taking place.

A recent visit to a low – tech operation, proves this.

First the logs are run through the saw on a carriage to take off the bark.

After the log is returned and rotated to get all the bark off,  the sawyer cuts the piece into ties or boards.

Workers on the ‘back of the mill’ sort the finished cuts, which are then banded with metal fasteners and loaded for shipment to buyers of the wood products.
