Apocalypse
Standing on the broken hills
Knee deep in shifting white dust
Watching the eternal sunrise
Will the fires ever burn out?
It’s so hard to breathe now
And so silent, only smoke, dust and wind.
Is anyone else out there
Since the meteor hit?
A spooky good take on the solitude that the photo seems to engender in most viewers. I really enjoyed this one.
Aloha,
Doug

The photo gave me a number of ideas, this was the one that really stuck.
It is a great picture, thanks for sharing it!
Finely wirtten, with the apocalyptic elements downplayed. I am over here: http://readinpleasure.wordpress.com/2012/06/01/fridayfictioneers-my-pilot/
Still wondering if my ‘voice’ is going to survive… thank you for reading and commenting. I appreciate it.
Few words. Plenty of feeling. Thank you.
thank you, this seemed to be the ‘best’ of several ideas from the photo.
Wonderful-you made me look around and see if everything is still ok here.
LOL! Thank you for the nice compliment!
Hey… a Meteor… Cool!

well, thank you! on my way to check yours out, the title is certainly intriguing.
Well done! I like the post-apocalyptic theme. Very spooky. Here’s mine: http://theforgottenwife.com/2012/05/30/friday-fictioneers-1-june-2012-the-conquerer/#comment-773
A perfect use of the photo. Very haunting, especially the line, “Is anyone else out there . . .”

What came off the keyboard was not the idea I started with:\ . That happens a lot, my ‘inner voices’ lead me off on their own tangents.
Despair to counter my hope…very bleak but nicely written.
Thanks for the comments on mine.
Oh, but there is always hope, the voice was worried but did not lie down and give up…
Nice “end of days” feel to this. I liked it – spare, just like the terrain.
Mine is here: http://erinleary.wordpress.com/2012/05/31/flash-friday-fiction-3/
Thanks for stopping by! I wnat to know what the scientist found on the ‘table of the gods’.
“Is anybody out there?” Sounds like a Pink Floyd lyric. Nicely done!
Thanks for reading mine. Here’s the link to mine for others.

I really wonder which is more fun, writing an entry or reading others and seeing where the photo leads them!
great photo, made me think of the movie planet of the apes
is it the end of mankind or the beginning?
loved both stories, and a special thanks to ted for sharing
so many possibilities!
oh, this is a good one. Great job here 🙂
thank you. It felt right 😉
Your last line caught me by surprise yet was perfect. A meteor – of course! Here’s mine: http://postcardfiction.com/2012/06/01/payback/
you know it’s ‘leave things hanging’ or a surprise ending’ to make a good story
i didn’t write this week, but loved yours 🙂
I noticed you were MIA. Maybe next time. 😉
A meteor! Now that’s a good idea! Didn’t think of that. You’ve written this very well. It incorporates the bleakness of the landscape. If your readers would like to read mine, it is here: http://marilynkaydennis.wordpress.com/2012/06/01/madison-woods-friday-fictioneers-waiting/
thanks so much for the nice words and I am looking forward to reading more of you Friday Fictioneers posts
